Modern History

Historic Restorations

I have always enjoyed history. However, growing up I always viewed the past through the lens of its media. This meant colour was current, black and white was old, and everything else was ancient. While I found the images of history fascinating I couldn’t really connect as everything was from the same gritty grainy world that no longer existed; it all just seemed so far gone. Then I stumbled upon T. Enami’s color stereocards from 1850’s Japan, and realized it was the technology I couldn’t connect with, not the people. This got me into photo restoration and colourization as I wanted to help people connect the way I had. It is also why I focus on creating a relatable modern aesthetic rather than historical accuracy. It’s All Relatives

While going through an old closet at the cottage we found a box of family photos from my great grandparents. The contents were cleaned, digitized, restored, colourized, and catalogued, and although many of the subject’s were identified A selection of my favorite are available in the gallery below.
